Aggressive driver arrested Saturday
A man was arrested after ramming the back of another car with his
sport utility vehicle several times, before plowing down a sign,
street pole and bus bench on Placentia Avenue near Center Street,
police said.
Viviano Lozano, 23, of Santa Ana, was arrested on charges of
assault with a deadly weapon and drunk driving after a resident
alerted police to the altercation at about 12:25 a.m. Saturday.
The victim was pulling out of the 7-Eleven store shortly after
midnight when a driver struck the back of the red car with his own
SUV, pushing the victim’s car partially down the street. Police said
that the driver of the SUV, which contained three or four passengers,
then chased the other car on Placentia Avenue. When the victim made a
U-turn at 18th Street, the driver of the SUV continued to chase the
car. The SUV sideswiped the victim’s car then lost control, colliding
with a bus shelter and knocking down a street sign and concrete
utility pole.
Costa Mesa police arrested Lozano after passengers of the SUV fled
on foot. City work crews, Southern California Edison and Orange
County Transportation Agency workers responded shortly afterward to
repair the damage.
