Vanguard University sophomore men’s soccer forward David McAulay, who
led the Lions to two crucial Golden State Athletic Conference
victories last week, has been named GSAC Player of the Week, as well
as the school’s Lion of the Week.
A 5-foot-9 transfer from Fresno State, McAulay had a goal and an
assist in a 3-2 upset of then-No. 18-ranked Concordia Oct. 14.
Four days later, he scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory
over Azusa Pacific.
The wins improved Vanguard’s record to 12-4, 5-1 in the GSAC, good
for second place. The 12 wins are a single-season record for the VU
program and propelled the Lions into the NAIA Top-25 rankings for the
first time since 2000. Vanguard, ranked 15th in 2000, is No. 24 in
the latest national poll.
McAulay leads the team with five goals and nine assists
