Estancia defeats Orange, wins league title
Sweeps by Stacie Nellor and the doubles tandem of Asia Ingram and
Heather Morton led the host and undefeated Estancia High girls tennis
team to the Golden West League championship after a 14-4 victory over
Orange Thursday,
The Eagles (13-0, 12-0 in league) claimed the title in their
second year in the league.
Yvonne Zaidler and Sara Stratton each won two of three sets in
singles while Huong Thai and Kittiya Sudhikam captured two victories.
Sarah Muradian and Sage O’Toole also claimed two sets with Hannah
Simmons and Kathryn Kulczyk seeing action in doubles.
The Eagles face Sage Hill at Park Newport today and will compete
in other nonleague matches next week in preparation for league finals
the following week.

Sailors roll past Knights
* Diana Khoury and A.J. Olson improved to 18-0 in doubles action
this season to lead the visiting Newport Harbor High girls tennis
team to an 11-7 Sea View League victory over Foothill Thursday.
Khoury and Olson, both seniors, lost just five games in sweeping
while the Newport duo of Bonnie Adams and Megan McKay, playing for
the first time together this season, won two of three sets. McKay and
Adams won the 10th set while freshman Chrissy Schwartz won two of
three sets at No. 1 singles. Schwartz knocked off Arianna Fahrney,
6-4, to win Newport’s ninth set.
Senior Vanessa Dunlap took two of three sets while Brittanny
Sturgess and the doubles team of Carly Adams and Carolyn Hustedt
accomplished the same feat for Newport (11-4, 6-1 in league).
The Sailors continue league play when they host Aliso Niguel at 3
p.m. Tuesday.

CdM wins 6th straight
* Freshman Michelle Atkins won her first varsity singles set, one
of the many victories earned Thursday by the Corona del Mar High
girls tennis team in its 14-4 Pacific Coast League triumph over host
Tesoro.
Atkins, a junior varsity call-up, won her final set of the match,
7-5. She has seen action in doubles for the Sea Kings (9-4, 6-1 in
league) this season. CdM has won six league matches in a row.
Freshman Jill Damion swept at No. 1 singles while sophomore Rachel
Miller claimed two of three sets.
Jackie Manning and Miranda Young lost just four games in sweeping
at No. 1 doubles for CdM while Jill Braverman and Juliette Mutzke won
their two sets Thursday. Jami Steele and Hayley Young substituted for
Mutzke and Braverman and earned a 6-2 win.
The doubles tandem of Stephanie Chen-Kelly McKitterick, along with
Amanda Rubenstein-Courtney Carnahan each won one set.
