Gildart grounds Generals

The Newport-Mesa Jr. Midget (11-13-year-olds) Seahawks fell behind
early, but came back to earn a 21-14 victory over the visiting
Woodcrest Generals Oct. 11 in Jr. All-American Football action.
Woodcrest took a 6-0, but the Seahawks responded with 14 straight
points.
Quarterback Matt Barkley threw complete to Carlo Valdes for a
29-yard gain to the Generals’ 2-yard line, setting up Jacob Gildart’s
touchdown run for the first Seahawk score.
The Seahawks stopped the Generals offense with strong play from
J.P. Gormly, Tyler Harmon, John Heard, James Burger, Hunter Alder,
Taylor McSunas, Richard Townsend, Kevin Rask and Evan Livadas.
The Seahawks received runs by Eric Rask and Gildart to set up
Barkley’s 8-yard touchdown pass to Robbie Boyer, making it 14-6 at
halftime.
Woodcrest tied it after a long drive and two-point conversion, but
the Seahawks answered with Gildart running 45 yards for the winning
touchdown.
In Pee Wee (11-12-year-olds) action:
* Seahawks 27, Generals 0:
The Seahawks recorded five sacks and forced three turnovers in the
shutout.
Tailbacks Michael Helfrich, J.D. Abbott, Nick Svendsen and
Mitchell Sands collectively gained more than 150 yards with
quarterback Adrian Luchs passing for 25.
Linemen Ryan Albert, Sean Breslin, Bunk Hooper, John Christian,
Steven Clapp, Michael Lancaster, Robert Connealy, William Ham and
Tyler Haly provided strong blocking to allow Helfrich to score a
season-high four touchdowns.
Receivers Jack Robison and Dylan McDonald also performed well.
Kyle Chene, Hooper, Matt Morris, Andrew Hicks and defensive
linemen Kyle Cablay, Kyle Gladding, Craig Jackson and Scott Frazier
witnessed Danny Bush record his first sack of the season.
Abbott, McDonald and Haly led the secondary with Haly collecting
his first interception of the season.
The Seahawk defense held the Generals to one completion and named
the entire unit “Player of the Week.”
In Clinic (8-10-year-olds) action:
* Mission Viejo Cowboys 25, Seahawks 6:
Mission Viejo broke the game open with touchdowns in the third and
fourth quarters to stymie any hopes of a Seahawk comeback.
Chase Favreau played well on both sides of the ball for the
Seahawks. He delivered some strong hits on Cowboy running backs and
opened holes along the offensive line. He also ran the ball and
caught a pass.
John Barton scored on a 70-yard touchdown run. Key blocks came
from A.J. Swies, Mario Rosales, Hunter Molnar, Louis Sheldon, Park
Eddy, Spencer Schmider, Kaden Stark, Jake Hall, Skylar Garn and
Joseph Scrivner.
In Jr. Pee Wee (9-10-year-olds) play:
* Norwalk Saints 46, Seahawks 7:
Reid Wallace ran a 45-yard sweep for a touchdown to highlight the
Seahawks’ offense.
Stephen Sheldon started at quarterback for the first time and
handled the offense efficiently.
Max Colvin returned to platoon with Wallace at running back with
Blake Burkhart and Nick Gushue leading the blocking.
William McConaghy disrupted Saints in the backfield and Alex
Hilton fought for every inch.
