Great eight for Corona del Mar’s Select

Corona del Mar’s Select boys under-11 soccer team earned its eighth

consecutive shutout with a 3-0 victory over South Irvine Oct. 11 in

AYSO Region 57 action.

Goalkeepers Brennan Anderson, Nick Curci and Clark Cashion teamed

to stymie South Irvine shots for CdM (8-0).

Jack Gorab scored the first two goals with assists from Kjell

Wolker and Taylor Ross.

Mason Case rounded out the scoring with a blast from 15 yards

following a pass from Jensen Rhinehart.

Brent Gray, Hector Marino and Will Morrow led the defense.

* Hawks 6, Ice 0:

Zach Martin scored two goals to lead the Hawks to the shutout.

Allen Brown, Graeme Fraser, Taylor Battram and Preston Risser added

single goals in the victory.

Brown, Fraser, Martin and Risser each played goalkeeper.

Andrew Iverson, Kevin Zipser, Ryan Crawford, David Fenner, Turner

Raleigh, Harrison Rolfes and Christopher Piggott all contributed

strong offense and defense in the Hawks’ second straight shutout.

In boys under-10 action:

* Blue Galaxy 3, Quicksilver 0:

Zach Davis scored two first-half goals to pace the Blue Galaxy

with a single goal by Jono Keedy capping the scoring.

Jonathan Harzon sent a header pass off a Quicksilver goal kick

toward Davis, who leaped as he struck the ball and buried it into the

back of the net from 18 yards for the first goal. Jake Jones set up

the second goal with a centering pass to Davis just before halftime.

Ryan Pierce’s clearing pass found Keedy, who dribbled the length

of the field before scoring the team’s third goal.

Colin Krum, Jones and Mathew Kernan controlled the midfield in

front of goalkeeper Taylor Grandstaff, who made a diving save in the

first half.

In girls under-10 play:

* Hot Shots 3, Red Hot Chili Peppers 1:

The Hot Shots scored two second-half goals to pace the victory.

Caroline Grant scored for the Peppers on an assist from Skylar

Dapp.

Chloe Dapp, Jenna Funsten and Rachel Cashion led the offense with

solid defense from Taylor Elmajian, Jenna Johnson and Lexie Shaw.

In boys under-8 play:

* Green Devils 2, Fireballs 2:

Kavi Sakraney and Matt Hurst scored goals for the Green Devils

with Jeffrey Meyer, Parker Varner, Blake Sudeck and Gannon Bond

providing strong goaltending.

Cole Friedman and Michael Rouleau played strong defense with Nate

Pozin creating scoring chances from midfield.
