SAILING CLASSES
Orange Coast College is offering new credit and noncredit sailing
classes this summer. Most classes are five weeks in length, and boats
range from Lido 14 dinghies to large ocean racers, even keelboats.

Sailing Fascination offers classes in boating safety and sailing

Orange County employers can bring their employees out to Newport
Beach on weekdays to enjoy a day of sailing courtesy of Orange Coast
College. The School of Sailing and Seamanship now offers a chance for
groups to work with the on-board instructor on different sailing
techniques while they get advice on how to perform well in business.
No sailing experience necessary. One-day classes cost from $100 to

Basic Cruising II classes for sailors seeking a Basic Cruising
Certification will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on three Saturdays,
Oct. 4, 11 and 18. The class, which does not offer transfer credits,
will be held at the Orange Coast College Sailing Center, at 1801 W.

Solid boat handling skills will be taught in a two-week
intermediate course at the Orange Coast Sailing Center, 1801 W.
Pacific Coast Highway. The course, which is not for transfer credit,
concentrates on spinnaker trim and crew work. The class meets from

An intermediate coastal navigation course on interpretation of
tide and current charts, calculating set and drift, establishing a
running fix, and taking bearings and ranges will begin Oct. 14. The
four-week course meets from 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesdays at the OCC Sailing
Center, at 1801 W. Pacific Coast Highway. Registration is $65.
