Edison third at own cross country invitational

Edison High’s cross country team earned a third-place finish Saturday
at the Charger Invitational it hosted at Fairview Park.
The overall team champion on the three-mile course was Crescenta
Valley, followed in second-place by Cypress.
Edison’s Sunset League rival, Los Alamitos, finished fourth
overall.
At the Central Park Invitational, hosted by Huntington Beach High,
Lakewood won the Division I competition, Mira Costa was the Division
II winner and Santa Ynez won the Division III race.
The Oilers did not participate in the three-mile race.
In girls’ tennis, Lauren Pascoe and Stacy Kaufman earns sweeps in
singles play as Huntington Beach edged host Los Alamitos, 10-8.
In boys’ water polo, Los Alamitos edged Marina, 8-7, in the Sunset
League opener for both teams. Reed Honrath, who won the MVP title at
last week’s Villa Park Classic, led the Vikings with three goals.
Huntington Beach opened league play with an 8-2 rout of Edison.
Bill Meripol and Nick Sullivan each scored twice to pace the Oilers.
In girls’ volleyball, Ocean View outlasted Santa Ana, 20-25,
25-23, 26-24, 25-19, in Golden West League play.
Huntington Beach stepped outside of Sunset League play to host San
Marcos and the Oilers (6-4) recorded a 25-16, 19-25, 26-24, 25-15
nonleague victory.
In girls’ golf, Jennie Lee shot a 1-under 35 as Edison downed
archrival Fountain Valley, 232-253, at Mile Square Park.
