Riptides split doubleheader
The Riptides, an under-12 team, went 1-1 in a doubleheader against
the Huntington Beach Bums Sept. 27 in Pacific Coast Girls Fastpitch
Softball action.
The Riptides defeated the Burns, 10-5, in the second game with Amy
Smith pitching two innings and giving up no runs. Courtney Francis
struck out three in her two innings.
Melanie Sitzer, Elizabeth Cramer, Rene Mycorn, Smith, Jessica
Brockett, Shaye Bastien and Brittany Martinez each singled with
Mycorn also adding a double.
The Bums edged the Riptides, 8-7, in the first game.
Kellsie Soltero struck out one in two innings while Mycorn pitched
the final three innings and allowed no runs while striking out two.
The Riptide defense prevented the Bums from scoring more runs.
Pumpkin Classic today
* The Pacific Coast Girls Fastpitch Softball league in Newport
Beach is hosting its first tournament this weekend for girls 8 and
under -- the Pumpkin Classic softball tournament at Bonita Creek
Park.
Play starts at 8 a.m. today and continues all day. Twenty teams
from around Southern California are participating. The public is
welcome.
