Sandpiper earns share of crown

Sandpiper won two of three games during the week to capture a share
of the Tuesday/Thursday League regular season championship in City of
Laguna Beach Community Services Department Summer 16-inch Slow Pitch
Softball play.
Sandpiper began its recent three-game swing in the seventh week of
the summer season with a 12-9 victory over Team Hobie at Riddle
Field.
Ryan Neptune’s two home runs led a charge that saw Mickey Allen,
Art Johnson and Steve Lafferty each homer and lead-off batter Jeff
Heminghaus double twice with a single.
Rich Collins led Team Hobie with a home run, a double and a pair
of singles.
Two days later, Sandpiper beat Rotary, 16-1.
Neptune again was hot at the plate with three home runs and two
singles -- good for seven RBIs.
Chris Howell, who limited Rotary to just three hits, backed his
pitching performance with three singles and a walk.
Island Shade, set in a three-way tie for second-place, snapped
Sandpiper’s two-game win streak with a 4-2 victory.
The game, decided in just 40 minutes, included Bruce Aguinaldo
pitching a six-hitter and Chuck Emanuele hitting a first inning grand
slam for Island Shade.
Neptune produced three singles and Dave Sommerville hit a solo
home run for Sandpiper.
In other games:
Used Cars 12, Island Shade 9
Used Cars pounded out 17 hits to get back on the winning track and
move into a three-way tie for second-place.
Mike Cooper powered two solo home runs, Corey Doll had three
singles and Micah Stovall homered and singled.
For Island Shade, Tom Taylor hit two homers, singled and walked to
account for six RBIs and Chuck Emanuele hit a three-run home run.
Team Viagra 2, Good, Bad & Ugly 0
Ryan Sauers hit a solo home run and Nate Pivaroff doubled to score
Bill Pivaroff as Team Viagra remained in a tie for second-place.
Ganahl Lumber 13, Good, Bad & Ugly 3
Robert Bonn hit three home runs and drove in four runs overall,
Greg Wallace delivered four runs behind a home run and single and
Gary Rauch homered, doubled twice and singled to pace Ganahl Lumber.
Randy Underwood doubled twice and T.J. Stewart singled three times
lead Good, Bad & Ugly.
