PacifiCare gives $45,000 to charities

The PacifiCare Foundation, established by PacifiCare Health

Systems Inc., has contributed $25,000 to three Costa Mesa nonprofits

-- Girls Inc., Annie’s House and Someone Cares soup kitchen.

Girls Inc. received $5,000, while Annie’s House and Someone Cares

got $10,000 each.

The foundation also donated $10,000 each to Newport Beach-based

Human Options Inc., to fund the salary of an elder abuse prevention

coordinator, and to FISH-Harbor Area Inc. to help subsidize the cost

for meals delivered to low-income, homebound elderly, ill and

disabled people.

Costa Mesa needs to fill city committee spots

The Costa Mesa City Council seeks citizens interested in serving

on several committees.

The council will be filling positions in committees for Child and

Youth Services, Cultural Arts, Fairview Park Friend and Fund-raising,

Historical Preservation, Human Relations, Investment Oversight, and

Redevelopment and Residential Rehabilitation.

Application forms are available at the city clerk’s office or the

city’s Web site, https://www.ci.costa-mesa.ca.us. The deadline is

Sept. 24. The council will make the appointments in October.

Fire Department receives $4,000 grant

Costa Mesa received a $4,000 grant from State Farm Insurance Co.

It will go to the Costa Mesa Fire Department to purchase supplies for

the new public education trailer.

The public information trailer was purchased with grant funds from

FEMA as part of the 2002 Assistance to Fire Fighters grant program.

A check presentation ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. Sept. 4

at Fire Station 5 at City Hall.
