Mom and kittens
This mother cat and her 7-day-old babies were brought to a
Community Animal Network event just as closing time arrived, said
DiAnna Pfaff-Martin, the Newport Beach group’s founder.
The Costa Mesa woman who brought them had too many animals, she
said, and there are more.
“We are told there are momma cats with multiple litters of all
different ages from newborns to a year old,” Pfaff-Martin said. “We
would love to become involved in this local rescue but [we] need
temporary homes to be provided by the pet-loving community until they
are of age for a permanent home.”
Spaying and neutering are a lot cheaper than raising such cats and
their offspring, she said.
“A typical network caller’s problem is that their free kitten
keeps getting herself pregnant,” she said. “From my experience on the
network phones, many free kittens live turbulent lives because people
have no investment to value.”
Spay and neuter clinics should charge only $25 for their services,
though a petition has circulated to support free clinics, she said.
