Police arrest laundry room rape suspect
Police have arrested an 18-year-old Garden Grove man in connection
with the rape of a 24-year-old woman who was doing laundry in her
Huntington Harbour apartment building two weeks ago, quelling the
fears of area residents.
Allen Plumb, 18, was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, raping
and robbing a young woman and is being held at Orange County Jail on
$250,000 bail.
“The information received coupled with evidence that was recovered
makes us highly confident that this is the person responsible for the
crime,” Huntington Beach Police Lt. Janet Perez said.
A woman was washing her clothes at around 10 a.m. Aug. 4 when a
man with a semi-automatic pistol confronted her, ordered her into a
stairwell and raped her, police said. He also stole an undisclosed
amount of cash.
The incident took place in the laundry room of Harbor Lights
apartments, on the 4000 block of Boardwalk Drive.
Police served two search warrants on Saturday morning, one at
Plumb’s home on West 13th Street in Garden Grove and another at a
residence near Pearce and Lynn streets in Huntington Beach, where the
teenager stayed from time to time, Perez said.
Evidence found during the search linked Plumb to the crime, Perez
said, though she declined to give specific details.
The case is still under investigation.
