TODAY
The Huntington Beach
Playhouse will present “Quilters” at the Central Library Theater.
By Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek, with lyrics by Sheldon Harnick,
it is a joyous and moving celebration of American womanhood that pays
eloquent tribute to the courage and spirit of one of our nation’s
pioneer women and her six daughters. “Quilters” blends a series of
interrelated scenes capturing the terror, joy, harsh challenges and
abiding rewards of frontier life. Illuminating stories are contained
in the patches, or quilt blocks, with music, dance and drama. In the
end, the various patches are assembled into a brilliantly colorful
quilt creating a breathtaking and magical effect. The show runs
through Aug. 17, with shows at 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and
at 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The cost is $8 for students, $18
general admission. Information: (714) 375-0696 or www.hbph.com.
