The Legacy Softball Club out of Huntington Beach won five games and
laid claim to 13th place at the 18-and-Under National Championships
held in Garland, Texas.
More than 140 teams from around the country competed in the
national tournament, played in 100-plus degree heat.
Legacy went 5-3 overall in tournament play, which included a
three-game win streak.
Pool play included an 8-0 blanking of the Maine Silver Sluggers
and a tough, 1-0 loss to the Nebraska Echoes Gold team.
Legacy then began double-elimination bracket play with a midnight
clash against the Indiana Earthquakes and rode a balanced attack in
its next game, an 8-0 whipping of the Tennessee Firebirds.
In its showdown with the Houston Cy-Fair Bats, Legacy jumped out
to a 5-0 lead and hung on for a 5-3 victory.
That win propelled the locals into the round of 16, where they
fell to the Kentucky Lady Sluggers, 1-0, in an extra-inning affair.
Legacy then got past the Ohio Illusion, 3-1, but was eliminated
from title consideration by the East Cobb Bullets, 5-3.
