Bronco team headed into next Zone
Fountain Valley’s 11-12 Bronco All-Star team, comprised of players
from Huntington Beach, won the Section championship Monday with a 2-1
victory over Anaheim.
The Bronco All-Stars, winners of two postseason tournament titles,
advances to play in the Zone Tournament.
The team’s first game is at 5 tonight in Whittier.
The Zone Tournament is the final tournament qualification
tournament prior to the Bronco World Series which will be played in
August in Monterey.
Garrett Heckel leads the team in home runs with five. Austin Hill
is next with four, Ryan Manzon has hit three and Anders Torgensen has
two.
Manzon, Michael Chairez, Griffen Cowen and L.J. Littel and the
team in runs scored, Donald Sneed and Nick Morton have led the
defense and Carter Wallace and Chris Martinez have played pivotal
roles in tournament play.
Hill, Littel, Mark Trentacosta and Garrett Haeckel have led the
team in pitching.
In club baseball, The 14-and-Under SoCal Mizuno Sluggers, an
independent travel baseball club team comprised of local players,
will hold a tryout session on Aug. 24 for its fall 2003 and spring
2004 seasons.
The tryout will be held at the Huntington Beach High baseball
fields.
The fall team has up to three roster spots to fill for the fall
2003 season which runs between Sept. and Dec.
The fall season includes up to 40 games and tournaments played
throughout Orange County and in Las Vegas.
The spring 2004 season will include approximately 70 games and a
berth in the World Series tournament.

In women’s water polo, the Golden West Water Polo Club team placed
third in the 20-and-Under Division at the Junior National
Championships held in Mission Viejo.
