Fairview onramp to San Diego Freeway opens
Headaches on the northbound San Diego Freeway are expected to ease
up as a result of the latest improvement to the Fairview Road onramp,
which officially opened Tuesday, transportation officials said.
The California Department of Transportation and the Orange County
Transportation Authority announced this week that the newly extended
onramp from Fairview Road to the northbound San Diego Freeway now
goes over the Harbor Boulevard exit and dumps motorists directly on
the freeway.
This portion of the freeway used to create gridlock for those
getting on the freeway at Fairview Road and those trying to merge
right to exit at Harbor Boulevard. The construction now provides
congestion relief through that area and makes the commute a little
less hectic, officials said.
Caltrans, OCTA and Costa Mesa have been working for years to
alleviate the traffic on the San Diego Freeway. This onramp
improvement is one of many projects for the San Diego and Corona del
Mar freeways designed to widen portions, construct new ramps, bridge
structures and sound walls and install drainage and electrical items.
