The Mizuno Sluggers 13-and-under baseball club team of Huntington
Beach returned home this week following a successful run at the
Cooperstown Baseball World Tournament in New York.
The Sluggers went 6-2 during the week-long event, won their pool
bracket and finished with the best overall record among competing
teams.
Pitching and defense were keys to the Sluggers’ success.
Calvin Drummond, MJ Forsberg, Carl Eberts, Scott Baxter and Kyle
Hughes all had starting pitching assignments.
Michael Bogard, Eric Tenenbaum and Trevor Briggs turned in strong
defensive performances.
Offensively, Clayton Prestridge led the team in hitting, Eberts
hit two home runs and Matt Ayster and Bobby Duarte each had big
hitting games.
In the skills competition that proceeded the tournament, Forsberg
won the “outfield throw” in the 13-and-under division.
The Sluggers will resume action in September and compete as a
14-and-under travel baseball club.
