Rotary clubs install their new leaders

The four Rotary clubs in Newport-Mesa held their events earlier this
month to demote the 2002-03 president and installed the 2003-04 club
leadership.
Newport-Balboa President Roger McGonegal was duly roasted by his
fellow club members and a longtime friend from New York at a dinner
attended by more than 80 Rotarians and guests at the Bahia Corinthian
Yacht Club.
Past President Nancy Raney presented McGonegal with a certificate
from Rep. Chris Cox, a proclamation from the city of Newport Beach
and the county of Orange, and another proclamation from Assemblymen
John Campbell and Ken Maddox and Sen. Ross Johnson, all in
recognition of his leadership of our award-winning club.
McGonegal recognized his outgoing board of directors with Cross
pins, then presented the Ice Breaker of the Year Award to Ryan
Kussner, the Community Service Award to Terry Rousselot, the Bob
Callis Award to Nan Raney, Wendell Sawyer and me and the Rotarian of
the Year Award to me again. District Governor Jim Parsons, who was on
hand to celebrate McGonegal’s year, presented the Rotary
International Four Avenues of Service award to Sawyer.
After the demotion and awards part of the evening, Ed Rennie was
installed as president of the club for 2003-04. Serving with Rennie
are Kim Kasell DeBroux, president elect; Elmer Biggerstaff, vice
president; Robert Krone, treasurer; Rousselot, Dan Hoffman, Dick
Dickson, Steve Speer, Nancy Raney and Kussner as directors.
Newport Beach Sunrise President Jeff Heileson was honored by more
than 80 Rotarians and guests who attended a dinner at the Five Crowns
Restaurant.
“It was more of a social time and an opportunity for me to thank
the club members and the board of directors before turning the gavel
over to Hans Linhardt, 2003-04 president,” Heileson said.
Heileson recognized his outgoing board of directors with Rotary
luggage tags. Installed with Linhardt as officers were Faye Bosler,
president elect; Rob Williams, secretary; Mike Bradford, treasurer;
John Clark, Syd Lucas, Heileson, John Goodlad, Tom Birch, Scott
Sorrell, Chris Szechenyi and Bob Wess as directors.
The Atrium Hotel was the site for the demotion dinner for Newport
Irvine President Bob Ramsay. More than 70 people, including a couple
of Rotarians in kilts to honor Ramsay’s heritage, were in attendance
as Ramsey was roasted and thanked for his leadership this past year.
Jim Coleman was installed as president for 2003-04. Serving with
Coleman are Greg Arbues, president elect; Bettie Lou Sechrist,
secretary; Junius Jaubert, treasurer; Richard Hergenrather, Karen
Spilly, Robert Little, Jason Lee, Roger Rustad and Lucy Walther as
directors. After the installation, guests enjoyed an evening of
dancing to a live band.
At the Rotary Club of South Coast Metro, President Truck Smith
said no to a Demotion Party. Smith didn’t want to hear what the
members had to say, so Lisa Allen and Connie Hamilton just assumed
their new positions as club co-presidents for 2003-04 at the first
meeting in July.
Members have indicated that they will have some kind of party
later this summer to thank Smith. Smith continues on as the club’s
secretary/ treasurer, and Dale Bixler and Teresa Sasnett will serve
as directors.
WORTH REPEATING
From Thought for the Day provided by Greg Kelley of the Newport
Mesa Irvine Interfaith Council:
“There is little difference in people, but that little difference
makes a big difference. That little difference is attitude. The big
difference is whether it is positive or negative.”
-- W. Clement Stone
