Good time to focus on the beach
LAGUNA LIFE
So what’s up in Laguna? Everything. The sun is out and the ocean is
warm. We have the “Sawdust Festival” and “Festival of the Arts”
already in full swing. A host of good restaurants and hotels,
beautiful beaches and the best thing about it, now you can enjoy all
of it without having to drive. Just jump on the free Laguna trolley
that cruises through town and ditch the summer traffic. Things are
good.
However, please bring back the beautifully lighted American flag
that used to greet comers and goers at the entrance of Laguna Canyon
on the hillside across the street from [seven-degrees]. I thought
that was a nice and classy gesture to this wonderful country we live
in.
In beach news, and I know we all love the beach so let’s all do
our part in preserving their beauty and in keeping our ocean clean.
We can all do so in the following ways that are being provided by the
Laguna Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation.
BEACH CLEANUP DAY
The Surfrider Foundation will have a Beach Cleanup Day at Main
Beach in Laguna and also at Aliso Beach from 9 a.m. to noon on
Saturday. There will be free parking (at the Main Beach location
only) and free Surfrider T-shirts to all participants as long as they
last. Help pick up from the Fourth of July madness the previous
weekend. The work counts toward community service hours for those who
need them (you know who you are).
Also, the Laguna chapter of Surfrider has a very special meeting
planned this month as it promises to be a great evening. See you
there!
SURFRIDER MEETING
The meeting will be 7 p.m. Thursday, July 17 at Wells Fargo.
They will be showing two videos. The first is Surfrider
Foundation’s new “From Sea to Summit: A Journey Through the
Watershed” that uses pro surfers, skateboarders and snow boarders to
give a pollution prevention and coastal protection message. The
second video is the inspiring “Heart of the Sea” (1 hour), which is
the story of Hawaiian surfer Rell Sunn, a former Surfrider board
member.
Summer’s here! Be safe and have fun.
Peace.
