One last hurrah
Five local players, representing three area high schools will suit up
Saturday for the 44th annual Orange County Prep All-Star Football
Game.
The summertime contest, pitting senior players from south county
schools against those in north county, will kickoff at 7:15 p.m. at
Orange Coast College’s LeBard Stadium.
Gates open at 6 p.m.
The five local players on the South squad include Andy Avila and
Bubba Reynolds of Edison High School, Blake Sorber of Huntington
Beach High and Joe Hadley and Eric Flanagan of Marina High.
The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Avila is one of nine defensive backs for
the South. Reynolds, 6-foot, 205 pounds, is one of four linebackers
and Flanagan, 6-foot-2, 285-pound, is one of six players along the
defensive line.
Hadley, 6-foot-2, 300 pounds and Sorber, 6-foot-4, 305 pounds, are
two of seven players on the South’s offensive line and will provide
protection for quarterbacks Beau Budde of San Clemente and Terry
Mermer of Calvary Chapel.
The South team will be coached by Los Amigos’ Roger Takahashi.
La Habra head coach Frank Mazzotta will coach the North.
Tickets can be purchased at the gate for $10. Presale tickets,
available through participating players, coaches, charities or the
Brea Lions Club, are $9.
Game ticket proceeds benefit the Orange County Youth Foundation,
Pediatric Adolescent Diabetic Research and Education Foundation,
Western Youth Services and local high schools and youth groups.
