Showing pride for Surf City

The Independent went on a city tour with the Huntington Beach Sister

City Assn. exchange students from Japan and New Zealand, asking local

host family students, ‘What is it about Huntington Beach that you are

most proud of?’

“I guess just like the laid back atmosphere. People are not as

uptight here and people think Americans are all uptight.”

Amy Werblin, 16

Huntington Beach

“Probably just the attitude people have here. People are a lot

nicer to get along with. I’ve been to the East Coast and the people

are not as accepting.”

Kelsey Roderick, 17

Huntington Beach

“I like the low crime rate, how you can really feel safe in our

city. Nothing will happen that will be that drastic.”

Phil Luth, 15

Huntington Beach

“We have a good beach, a fun beach. That’s probably my favorite

part about the city. And everyone in Huntington Beach is so nice.

That’s really special.”

Stephanie Thompson, 15

Huntington Beach

“Our beach ‘cause it’s just what Huntington Beach is all about --

the pier, Main Street and surfing.”

Erick Koon, 15

Huntington Beach

“It’s laid back and fun and Huntington Beach has a lot to do and a

lot close by like the beach, the mall, the movies.”
