* TENNIS: Twilight tennis will gear up for a second session beginning
on Aug. 6. With different classes for beginners and intermediate
players, twilight tennis provides a little instruction as well as a
game of doubles or singles. It is asked that participants bring one
can of unopened balls to the first class meeting and the cost for a
five-week session is $55. Classes take place at Las Arenas Park.
* SOCCER: Newport Beach’s Premier Coed Soccer League is hosting
its first Summer Shootout Tournament created for coed soccer teams
from the West Coast that want to participate in a friendly, but
competitive event. The tournament is July 19 and 20 at Lincoln and
Peninsula Park. Each team is limited to a 20-member roster and no
more than six field players of the same gender can be on the field at
the same time.
The first-place finisher will receive $500 and a Silver Cup.
Second and third-place also receive trophies. For more information

* SWIMMING: The 50-meter Olympic pool at the Marian Bergeson
Aquatic Center at Corona del Mar High School is available for adult
lap swims Monday-Friday from 6-8 p.m., and Fridays from 10 a.m.-3
p.m. An annual pass costs $160 or a 20-punch pass costs $50. Prices
increase for non-residents.
* VOLLEYBALL: For those less serious about competition,
recreational drop-in volleyball is offered Friday from 7:00--11:00
p.m. at the West Newport Gym. The fee is $2.50 each visit.
