The annual Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast will be held from 6 to 10 a.m.
in Lake Park as a fund-raising event before the Fourth of July

The annual Surf City 5K Run
and Expo will include entertainment, family fun, refreshments and
fitness products in the Expo Village starting at 7 a.m. Registration
will begin at 6 a.m. at Worthy Park on the corner of 17th and Main
streets. Participants can avoid long lines by picking up the race
packet, T-shirt and race number at City Hall today from 10 a.m. to 5
p.m. Cost to register is $30 for adults, $10 for children. Proceeds
benefit the Huntington Beach Jr. Lifeguard program. Information:

The largest Independence
Day parade west of the Mississippi River, the Huntington Beach
Fourth of July Parade, features more than 300 entries including
bands, floats, film and television celebrities, local dignitaries,
equestrians and community groups. The parade will begin at the corner
of 8th Street and Pacific Coast Highway at 10 a.m. and end at
Yorktown Avenue and Main Street at noon. Admission is free, and
parking will be closed at Pacific Coast Highway between Beach
Boulevard and Goldenwest Street between 6 a.m. and about 1 p.m.
Parade viewers can enter the Downtown area off Goldenwest on Orange
or Palm avenues. Commemorative celebration merchandise and bleacher
seat tickets sold at $10 each are available along the parade route or
can be purchased at City Hall or on the city’s Web site now.

Red, White and Blues. Steve Copeland and Raging Sun blues band
will perform at Pier Plaza, followed by a costume contest to chose
“Mr. and Mrs. Patriotic.” Next, get ready to brush up on your Surf
City facts in the “HB Trivia Contest.” The events will take place
