There was incorrect information in “Healthy Hues” that ran in the
Daily Pilot on June 22. The story stated that one in 10 people
exposed to sunlight on a regular basis will develop melanoma and that
80% of sun damage in most people occurs before the age of 13. It
should have stated that one in 70 people exposed to sunlight on a
regular basis will develop melanoma and that 80% of sun damage in
most people occurs before the age of 18. The story also stated
children at risk for melanoma is on the rise, when it should have
stated that the risk for people in their 20s is on the rise.
