Newport Harbor claims tournament
Newport Harbor emerged victorious at the Corona del Mar Pony Baseball
Father’s Day baseball tournament for 14-year-olds with a 6-1 victory
over the hosts on June 15 at Eastbluff Park.
Harbor’s pitching, including starter Drew Harris and relievers
Jarrett Daniel and Nathan Todd, limited Corona del Mar to four hits
and struck out 12.
Offensively, Newport Harbor scored in five of the seven innings,
collecting 10 hits and striking out just twice.
Tom Southern got things started for Newport Harbor with a solo
home run in the second inning.
After Corona del Mar tied the score in the bottom of the second,
Kyle Rohan’s base hit scored Harris for a 2-1 lead, which Newport
Harbor never relinquished.
Daniel drove in the third run of the game for Newport Harbor with
a double to the fence, then retired the first six batters he faced
after relieving Harris on the hill.
Base hits by Starnes Arnold, Harris and Todd in the sixth inning
increased the lead to 5-1. P.J. Errington finished off the scoring in
the seventh inning when he came home on a hit by Bryce Stillman.
