Kool Kat Kollection Art Exhibit will be at the Central Library

through June 30. The Kool Kat Kollection is a series of whimsical

paintings depicting the adventures of a Huntington Beach cat and his

friends created by local artist, Don Roth. The Central Library Corner

Gallery is open Monday 1 to 9 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday 9 a.m.

to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 5

The Huntington Beach Council on Aging will host a golf tournament

to benefit senior services at Meadowlark Golf Course at 12:30 p.m.

Golf participation costs $85, including green fees, a cart, barbecue

lunch and dinner. Dinner only is $28 per person, and starts at 6 p.m.

SATURDAY

Huntington Smooth Jazz Series will present Marion Meadows, one of

the most distinctive soprano sax voices, and a great tenor

saxophonist at a smooth jazz dinner and concert at the Huntington

Beach Central Library Theater. Meadows has recorded or performed with

Brook Benton, Eartha Kitt, the Temptations, Michael Bolton, Angela

Bofill, Will Downing and Native American flute player Douglas Spotted

Eagle. Dinner is $30, with show tickets either $35 or $55. Proceeds

The Department of Fish and Game will offer one of its two annual

“Free Fishing Days,” where anyone can fish on Huntington Beach

without buying a fishing license. All other fishing regulations, such

as bag and size limits, gear restrictions, fishing hours and stream

closures, remain in effect. Fishing from the pier is free every day,

but fishing from the beach is only free on Free Fishing Day.

The American Cancer Society will host the Power of Purple, an

annual event, that includes a 24-hour walk, jog and camp-out June 7

and 8 with entertainment, food and activities for all ages at Golden

West College. Registration for teams of 10 to 15 people is $150.

Golden West College Symphonic Band will present a free summer

“Concert on the Green” at 5 p.m. under he direction of conductor Tom

Hernandez. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs to the Golden West

Big Red Productions will present it’s latest surf flick “The Next

Huntington Beach Playhouse will present “Heaven Can Wait” by Harry

Seagall, the story of a prizefighter, Joe Pendelton, who dies only to

discover it wasn’t his time yet. His body, however, has been cremated

so heaven must find an alternate place for him. Performances will run

The 53rd annual Pier Swim, sponsored by the Huntington Beach’s

Community Services Department, is a half-mile swim around the pier

that includes awards for the fastest swimmers. You can join the fun

by watching for free or registering to compete in a variety of

divisions. Times are 9 a.m. for Men, Masters & Seniors Division, 9:45

a.m. for Juniors Division. Cost is $12 and must be paid between 8 and

Local health author Jean Krueger will hold a free lecture and book
