Mark Saar’s powered an RBI single to right-center field in the bottom
of the seventh inning, his hit giving the A’s a 2-1 victory over the
first-place Yankees in an Ocean View Little League Majors Division
contest.
Saar’s hit scored Mile Beran who reached base on a one-out single.
Andrew Bynam, Sean Guite and Matt McWilliams combined to hold the
Yankees to three hits.
Beran led the A’s offense with two hits and singles went to Bynam,
Guite, McWilliams, Ryan Christie and Shaun Dolan.
In other games:
Angels 2, Twins 0
Cody Frame threw a near-perfect game for the Halos as he went the
distance and allowed just one hit while striking out 14.
Minor A Division
Yankees 14, Giants 11
The Yankees took advantage of 10 walks and 11 hits in bolting to a
13-1 lead before holding off the Giants.
Ryan Lewis went three for three with two RBIs, Lars Jensen had two
hits and an RBI, Kevin Stoops doubled among two hits, Mitchell Grant
and Austin Barlow each had two RBIs and Sam Rummel doubled for the
Giants.
Giants 3, Marlins 2
Austin Barlow’s one-out line-drive single to left field scored
Scot Bailey for the game-winner as the Giants pulled out the game in
the bottom of the sixth inning.
Barlow also doubled.
Dodgers 6, Angels 5
Matt O’Connor and Micah Womack produced key hits that led to a
four-run second inning for the Dodgers.
Mark Johnston and Bryan Perez split six innings on the mound for
the Dodgers and O’Connor and Nate Sutton each had run-saving plays at
the plate.
Dodgers 8, Pirates 6
Bryan Perez hit a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning
to break a 6-6 tie and give the Dodgers the victory.
Quinn Herndon and Victor Herrera each had an RBI hit in the
opening inning for the Dodgers.
At Seaview Little League:
Minor A Division
Yankees 19, Mets 1
Tony Giovinetti doubled twice, Brett Bryant tripled, Kyle Socsia
singled twice and Jonathan Steele doubled to power the Yankees.
Minor B Division
Angels 15, Tigers 14
Trevor Long got the pitching win for the Angels; Dominic Artiga
had three of the Tigers’ 14 hits.
Royals 8, Dodgers 5
Taylor Going doubled and singled with two RBIs and Max Mayer got
the pitching win for the Royals.
Mayer and fellow pitcher Perry Clitheroe each struck out five.
Angels 11, Yankees 3
Wesley Krautkramer had two hits and three RBIs, Christian Anderson
doubled with three RBIs and Trevor Long notched his second pitching
win of the week to lead the Angels.
Royals 18, Yankees 2
Perry Clitheroe didn’t allow a hit and struck out eight in three
shutout innings for the Royals.
Taylor Going racked up four hits, Noah Harrison and J.D. Keef each
had three hits, Clitheroe had two hits and Scott Campbell had four
RBIs during the Royals’ 16-hit attack.
Dodgers 12, Tigers 9
Ryan Rodrigues went three for three and Jack Koeller got the
pitching win for the Dodgers.
Luke Herrington and Nick Plunkett each doubled twice for the
Tigers.
In club baseball:
HB Breakers win tourney title
The HB Breakers 13-and-under Division club baseball team won its
second consecutive So. Cal Super Series Tournament of the season by
winning a Memorial Day weekend event in San Clemente.
In the championship game the Breakers downed the Moreno Valley
Dodgers, 6-3.
Robbie Herron, who closed on the mound for the Breakers, was named
the tournament MVP.
In North Huntington Beach Girls Softball:
North H.B. Gold wins tourney title
The 12-and-under Division Gold team out of North Huntington Beach
won five of six games and captured the division tournament title of
the Mirada Madness tournament in La Mirada for the second consecutive
year.
North H.B. Gold capped their tournament run with a busy three-day
game schedule that concluded with a 9-2 rout of Downey in the
championship game.
