Literacy volunteers needed in Newport

Imagine not being able to vote, take a driving test or fill out a

job application because of an inability to read.

Those who struggle with literacy are in need of interested and

dedicated people who want to give back to the community. Those

interested in helping adults with basic language skills are invited

to volunteer as tutors for Newport Beach Literacy Services.

Tutors provide one-on-one assistance to those struggling with

language skills and help a segment of the population regain control

of their lives.

Volunteers need no previous experience and will be given a

four-week training session.

All interested in volunteering are invited to attend an

orientation from 2 to 4 p.m. or 6 to 8 p.m. on June 24 at the Newport

Beach Central Library.

The Newport Beach Central Library is at 1000 Avocado Ave. For

additional information, call 949-717-3874.
