Pirates trampled by Santa Ana, 14-1

The Orange Coast College baseball team trailed, 10-1, after two
innings, and went on to lose, 14-1, to Orange Empire Conference host
Santa Ana Thursday.
Santa Ana (19-8, 8-4 in the OEC) scored six runs in the second
inning, which featured a grand slam by Kenny Lane, whose home run
blast traveled 385 feet over the left field wall. That gave the Dons
the 10-1 lead.
OCC (12-12-1, 4-8) went scoreless through the final eight innings
and finished with six hits. The Pirates also committed five errors.
OCC starter Kyle Allen struggled through 1 1/3 innings of work. He
gave up five hits and walked four. Tyler Schaffer led the Pirates’
offense with a 2-for-2 performance.
Santa Ana has now scored nine or more runs in the 16 of its 26
games this season.
The two teams will play again on Saturday at noon at OCC. The Dons
have won the first two games between the teams by a combined score of
28-7.
