Estancia rallies for 6-5 nonleague win
Junior Tyler Hoffman is the envy of the Estancia High pitching staff,
after recording his second win in as many starts Monday in a 6-5
nonleague triumph over visiting Santiago.
Hoffman, the nephew of injured San Diego Padres closer Trevor
Hoffman, worked five innings, yielding four hits and two earned runs
while striking out four. He walked five and hit a batter, however,
forcing him to pitch out of a few jams, said Estancia assistant coach
C.K. Green.
Hoffman also helped his cause with a two-run double in the third,
part of a three-run inning that put the Eagles on top, 4-3. Estancia
added single runs in the fourth and sixth, which proved to be a
valuable cushion, after the Cavaliers rallied for two in the seventh.
Jeremy Hauser, however, shut the door for his first save to help
the Eagles improve to 2-5.
Greg Hughes tripled and scored three runs, while Cullen Crom went
2 for 4 with two RBIs and Jose Jauregui went 2 for 3 with one RBI.
Estancia opens Golden West League play Wednesday at home against
Westminster.
