Magic upsets Jazz to win title
The Jazz had gone through their regular season Senior League schedule
with an unblemished mark and appeared headed for a league tournament
championship, too.
But a 9-point, fourth quarter lead wouldn’t hold in the
tournament’s title game, and the Jazz had their unbeaten season
spoiled by the Magic who posted a 48-46 upset victory.
The Jazz had gone 10-0 overall but could not overcome the 30-point
scoring performance of the Magic’s Marcus Hairston in the final.
Hairston was named the league playoff MVP.
In the Junior League final:
Heat 36, Pacers 35 (3 OT)
The Heat, which finished third during the regular season, survived
three close playoff games to emerge with the league tournament title.
Coach Richard Zona’s club held off the Rockets in first round
action, then withstood a late rally to defeat the Magic in semifinal
play.
In the league final, the Heat defeated the surprising Pacers, who
had finished in ninth-place during the regular season, in a triple
overtime affair.
The Pacers’ tournament upset run included victories over the
top-seed and regular season champion Hornets, and the Lakers in
semifinal action.
