Cal tops UCI
The UC Irvine baseball team was shut out for the fifth time this
season, dropping a 2-0 nonconference decision at UC Berkeley Sunday.
The Anteaters (9-14) managed four hits and received four walks and
two hit batsmen, but failed to score, allowing the Golden Bears to
capture the series, 2-1.
Freshman first baseman Matt Falk went 2 for 4 for the Anteaters,
while sophomore third baseman Brett Dalton and sophomore right
fielder Jordan Szabo also had singles for the visitors.
UCI starter Michael Koehler yielded both runs to pick up his
second loss in three decisions, though Cal managed just four hits.
UCI’s Steve Schroer threw four shutout innings of one-hit relief.
Cal improved to 13-9.
