A birthday to Exchange about

The National Exchange Club “Stand Up America” membership drive has
nearly topped the 600 mark, said David A. Nershi, its executive vice
president.
“We are rapidly moving toward our goal of 1,000 Stand Up America
members,” he said.
During the week of March 23, local Exchange Clubs will observe
National Induction Week as part of Celebrate Exchange. This is the
time to formally induct the members brought in during the Stand Up
America membership drive.
Exchange’s 92nd birthday is March 27, so this will be a very
special week indeed, said Tom Keyes, president of the Exchange Club
of Orange Coast.
In honor of Exchange’s birthday, the Orange Coast Club, with the
leadership of Bob and Terri Scott, is making 92 Easter baskets for
distribution by Share Our Selves.
There is still time to join Exchange, America’s Service Club. The
Orange Club meets at noon Wednesdays at the Bahia Corinthian Yacht
Club while the Newport Harbor Club meets at noon Thursdays at the
Newport Harbor Nautical Museum.
MATTERS OF THE
HEART MATTER
Sandy Firestone, one of the honorees at the January Matters of the
Heart dinner sponsored by Soroptimist International, sent a note to
club President Jacquin Anastasio indicating that she had “received a
call from a nurse I know from a local clinic who told me she is
treating a young women who has just been diagnosed.
“This young woman told her that she had found a lump, but was
afraid to do anything about it until she heard a woman speak about
her experience with breast cancer,” Firestone wrote. “She heard this
person speak at a dinner in which she was receiving an award. The
young woman was one of the waitresses that evening at Matters of the
Hearts dinner.
“You guys may have just saved a life,” Firestone added.”I think
this is just awesome.”
Firestone, who works at the Hoag Hospital’s Cancer Center, was one
of the speakers that evening. She discussed her experience with
breast cancer.
