Barbara Purks of Huntington Beach has...

Barbara Purks of Huntington Beach has been selected to sit on the

2003 Susan G. Komen spring luncheon committee. The annual luncheon

event is a joint effort of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer

Foundation and High Priority, an Orange County-based breast cancer

organization. Purks, who has been on the board of directors for two

years, has been active with the Susan G. Komen Foundation for 11

years, has helped to organize the Race for the Cure, spring

luncheons, golf tournaments and VIP dinners. More than 500 breast

cancer survivors, families and friends will meet at the Irvine

Marriott on Saturday, April 5 to learn and to celebrate ... Navy

Seaman recruit Daniel C. D’Amato, a 2001 graduate of Marina High

School in Huntington Beach, recently completed U.S. Navy basic

training at Recruit Training Command in the Great Lakes, Ill. ... Bob

McKnight, president of the Huntington Beach-based company Quiksilver

Inc., has been named chairman of the Ocean Institute’s ninth annual

Golf Classic and Gala Committee. McKnight has been involved in the

Dana Point-based nonprofit organization for seven years. According to

President Dan Gee more than 78,000 students attend the Ocean

Institute’s educational programs every year. The gala will take place

at the Ritz-Carlton in Dana Point on Sunday, April 27, and the golf

tournament will be on the following day at Talega Golf Club in San

Clemente ... Charles B. Bailey of Huntington Beach, son of Mr. and

Mrs. Benjamin Bailey, was listed on Furman University’s dean’s list

for the winter term 2003. Students must achieve a grade-point average

of 3.4 or higher to be honored on the dean’s list ... Jennifer A.

Egan of Huntington Beach and Derek M. Falde of Huntington Beach made

the dean’s list at Azusa Pacific University. Egan, a graduate of

Newport Harbor High School, is majoring in social work. Falde, a

graduate of Edison High School, is majoring in physics. Both students

had to achieve a grade-point average of 3.5 or better.
