CdM advances to state finals

Connor Gaal and Mason Case each scored goals in the first half and
the Corona del Mar boys under-10 All-Star soccer team shut out
previously-unbeaten Downey, 2-0, to claim the Section 11 regional
tournament.
CdM held its opponents to one goal, with stellar defensive play
from Brent Gray, Garret Larson and goalkeeper Clark Cashion (three
shutouts in four games). CdM advances to the state finals, held March
23 in Temecula, and will be one of only five teams in Region 57
history to make it this far.
In a 5-1 victory over San Marcos of San Diego in its first game,
CdM got goals from Brent Lawson, Jack Gorab, Kjell Wolker (two) and
Case.
Jack McBean and Case each found the back of the net in a 2-0 win
over Huntington Beach.
CdM cruised to a 9-0 win over La Mesa in Game 3. McBean tallied
three goals with two coming from Blake Thomsen and Gaal, Case,
Brennan Anderson and Hector Marino scoring once.
In girls soccer play:
* The Corona del Mar Blues Clues completed an undefeated season
(10-0), beating Tustin, South Irvine, North Irvine, Costa Mesa and
Newport Beach twice during the six-week season.
The Blues Clues, an under-12 Silver All-Star soccer team, scored
32 goals while allowing only two.
