Taylor West drove in two runs with a bases-loaded double to deep
center and Ryan Knapp also collected two RBIs with a single in the
fourth inning in the Giants 4-3 victory over the Diamondbacks in
Costa Mesa National Little League Majors division play.
West, the Giants’ starting pitcher, struck out nine in 3 2/3
innings, while Gavin Montague threw three scoreless innings for the
D-backs.
Knapp relieved West in the fourth and struck out four in 2 1/3
innings, including the D-backs’ Nos. 3 and 4 hitters with the
potential tying run on third base in the final inning.
The D-backs scored their runs in the bottom of the fourth. Ryan
Boselo drove in two runs with a single and Montague scored on a
passed ball.
In other Majors play:
* Padres 7, Dodgers 5
The Padres received strong pitching from Kevin Kiser and Danny
O’Neil in the two-run victory.
Daniel Derieg, James Wanbaugh and Gian-Paul Stebbins each had
strong hits and outfielder Jesse Fox shined defensively. He snagged a
bullet hit by Nick Pederson, and a fly ball to center hit by Cody
Green for the final out.
In Minor A action:
* Rockies 15, Padres 4
Esubio Castillo struck out 11 and had two hits while Tommy Price
went 3 for 3 with four stolen bases for the Rockies.
Luke Roberts hustled on the basepaths and also went 3 for 3.
The Rockies (2-0) have scored 26 runs in their first two games.
* Mariners 12, D-backs 4
P.J. Maloney pitched four strong innings and added a double while
scoring three runs in a 12-4 Mariners’ win over the Diamondbacks in
National Little League Minor A action.
Tyler Shefner and Tommy Stephens pitched well in relief.
Shefner also collected two hits and scored three runs alongside
the contributions of Matt Mello, J.T. McLucky and Matthew Langmos.
James Lewis, Dakota Gilbert and Austin Knott all tallied runs for the
Mariners.
In the Farm Division:
* The Mets shined both offensively and defensively against the
Padres. Jake Stone led the offense with seven RBIs and Chad Fackler
went 6 for 6 to go with an unassisted double play.
Ryan West and William Reed each had five hits and strong offensive
performances were put in by Matt Thomas, Cassie Stevenson and
Harrison Stern.
Eric Pfautz and Brandon Dieckhoff played solid defense.
Bradley Wilson was awarded Mets’ MVP for his contributions on both
sides of the field.
* Alex DeSoto earned player of the game honors, collecting three
hits and knocking in three runs for the Diamondbacks against the
Astros.
Dante Capocia, Christian Darrow, Tyler Owens, Nathan Frank, Cole
Mensinger and Danielle Moran each had multi-hit games.
The defense was highlighted by a double play completed by Frank
and Mensinger. Zac Reidle, Bill Crosson and Mitchell Clevidence also
sparkled.
Garrett Deutsch started the scoring in the second inning, knocking
in the first run.
* The Farm Dodgers received strong offensive performances against
the Pirates.
Jeff Carlyle went 6 for 6 with four doubles and scored four times
while Robert Sullivan had six hits and six runs.
Kayla Hayes, Desmond Lewis and A.J. Fischer each collected five
hits and Noah Petero got his first hit of the season.
In American Division play:
* The Tigers got two home runs and added offensive help to notch
a 5-2 victory over the Mariners in Costa Mesa American Little League
Farm Division action.
Erik Kjos and Luke Rockwell both doubled to collect two RBIs and
Aaron Axtell had a base hit and then a double.
The Mariners’ Cody Hanify tallied a base hit and solid fielding
was provided by Marc Harris, Andrew Magee, Axtell, Nathan Christy,
Gus Acevedo and Michael Martinez.
* The Athletics and Mariners dueled Sunday in T-ball action.
Wyatt DeVine and David Travis made strong throws to Christian Veit
at first base and Kyanna Troung led the A’s offense.
