The Corona del Mar High baseball team continued to be double trouble
for its opponents, rapping five doubles among its 12 hits to forge a
10-4 victory over visiting Garden Grove Tuesday in the quarterfinals
of the Newport Elks Tournament’s Costa Mesa bracket.
Josh Bradbury, Barrett Sprowl and Danny Marin-Finn each had a
double and two hits, while Nick Karpe added two hits and Ryan Rhodes
lashed a two-run single.
Wess Presson and Todd Macklin also doubled for the Sea Kings, who
have 12 doubles in two games.
Macklin struck out seven and yielded just two runs and six hits in
five innings to earn the pitching victory.
CdM (2-0) plays the Pacifica Thursday in the semifinals at a site
to be determined.
