Angel was found on the doorstep of the Humane Society. She was a
treasure, inside a taped-shut box.
A rare Lynx Point Siamese cat, Angel is rare because she is a
polydactyl. In other words, she has extra toes on each paw, said
DiAnna Pfaff-Martin founder of the Newport Beach-based Community
Animal Network. These cats were most notably favored by author Ernest
Hemingway, she said.
“One cat out of each polydactyl generation line is chosen and
allowed to breed in order to keep the ‘Hemingway Cats’ original line
going,” Pfaff-Martin said.
The network is also trying to rescue about 35 Siamese mix cats
from the pound. The animal control removed the cats from their
owner’s home.
It is kitten season and the network needs volunteer bottle-feeders
and temporary housing for homeless cats and kittens. So many calls
for help come in at this time and volunteers are also needed to
answer the phone.
“Receiving calls for animals in crisis is not for the
faint-hearted,” Pfaff-Martin warned. “We are seeking a team of
professionals that can manage, delegate and find solutions for the
many people who need help.”
