The UC Irvine women’s basketball team will look to improve on its
surprising season tonight at approximately 8:30 when the Anteaters
face Idaho in a quarterfinal of the Big West Tournament at the
Anaheim Convention Center.
The Anteaters, the No. 4 seed, and the fifth-seeded Vandals
(10-17, 8-8 in the Big West) split this season, with each winning on
their home floors
UCI features five starters who earned All-Big West Conference
honors this season. The ‘Eaters are seeking their first win in the
Big West Tournament since 1997.
“We’ve done a great job all year of distributing the basketball,”
said UCI Coach Mark Adams, whose squad finished 16-11, 9-7 in the Big
West. “We’re a pretty unselfish basketball team.”
Last year, the Anteaters finished with eight wins, but Adams said
they have opened up the offense and each player improved over the
off-season. UCI junior forward Christina Callaway leads the team in
points (13.5) and rebounds (8.1) per game.
