The Vanguard women’s basketball team, which won the Golden State
Athletic Conference regular-season title, failed to hold off hot
Master’s College, which defeated the Lions, 76-66, Tuesday at
Vanguard University.
Leslie Dubois scored 21 points for the Mustangs, who went on an
8-0 run to overcome a four-point deficit in the final 3:54. After the
Master’s built its lead to 10, it clinched the victory by converting
7 of 8 free throws. The lead had changed five times during an eight
minute span early in the second half, until the Lions broke away, but
the Mustangs answered back.
Sophomore guard Lacey Mills led the Lions with a game-high 24
points, including 7 for 9 three-point attempts.
Senior forward Courtney McKinney, who came off the bench, chipped
in 13 points and eight rebounds for VU.
The Lions built a nine-point lead midway through the first half,
but senior guard Robbin Dittenbir, picked up two quick fouls and sat
the remainder of the half. Meanwhile, the Mustangs ran off a 14-5 run
to tie it at 22 with 6:42 left before halftime.
Both teams will play in the NAIA Championships beginning March 19
in Jackson, Tennessee.
