Double trouble for Tars

Newport Harbor High’s baseball team dropped a pair of nonleague games
to Pacifica Saturday, 10-2 and 16-0, and they have Tuesday to look
forward to when the resume play in the Newport Elks Tournament
against ... second-round foe Pacifica.
Newport Harbor pitching surrendered 29 hits and the Sailors were
guilty of eight errors, but there were some bright spots offensively,
especially with junior Karo Makserjian, Matt Erickson, Ryan Torrey
and Greg Miner.
Makserjian, in just his second year of organized baseball, went 2
for 3 in the opener, and was 2 for 2 with a triple in the nightcap.
Joining Makserjian’s statistics in the first game were Erickson (2
for 4 with an RBI and a run scored), Torrey (2 for 4 with an RBI) and
Miner (2 for 3 with a run scored), which was the extent of Newport’s
eight-hit attack.
The Sailors (1-2), by virtue of their 8-3 victory over Century on
Friday in the Newport Elks Tournament, are faced with Pacifica (3-0)
on Tuesday at the same site.
