CORONA DEL MAR -- Presenting the Corona del Mar Wrecking Crew, Class
of ’03.
That’s how the Vaqueros of Rancho Alamitos must have felt Friday
afternoon as they watched the Corona del Mar Sea Kings unleash a
14-hit attack, backed up with seven doubles and two home runs and
flawless defense, in absorbing a 14-1 baseball lashing in the first
round of the Newport Elks Tournament Friday.
Keith Long led the way with three doubles, going 3 for 4 with four
runs scored.
Nick Palchikoff had a solo home run and Todd Macklin socked a
two-run four-bagger, while Josh Bradbury, Barrett Sprowl, Danny
Marin-Finn and Brandon Kurtz belted doubles.
The big inning was a five-run third, and CdM posted three in the
fourth and four in the sixth.
Bradbury finished 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs and Macklin and Marin-Finn
each had three RBIs.
Blake Contant started and went four innings, allowing no runs and
got the win. Stockstill finished it out for Corona del Mar.
The victory sends Corona del Mar into Tuesday’s second round
against the winner of the Garden Grove-Santa Ana Valley game, at
Corona del Mar.
