Breakers are triumphant in boys’ tennis opener

The Laguna Beach boys’ tennis team launched its 2003 campaign

Tuesday with a 12-6 victory over host Sage Hill.

The Breakers’ top doubles team of Eric Tran and Jeff Ferguson

swept their Lightning opponents, 6-2, 6-2 and 6-1. At No. 2 doubles,

Kyle Paxton and Ivan Kovacevic also earned a victory with scores of

6-1, 6-1, 6-3.

Laguna will play a nonleague match at Dana Hills on Tuesday.

Also last Tuesday, Laguna’s boys’ volleyball team began its season

with a shutout loss to host Edison.

The Chargers of the Sunset League, also playing their season

opener, defeated the Breakers, 15-5, 15-12, 15-6.

The Breakers return to the court next Tuesday to play their second

consecutive Sunset League foe, Huntington Beach, on the Oilers’ home

floor.
