Chase goes for four

Austin Chase scored four unanswered goals to lead Corona del Mar to a

5-3 victory over Mission Viejo at the Gretzky Center in Irvine in

club roller hockey action.

Chase assisted to Matt Benvenuti for CdM’s first goal. Mission

Viejo’s Brandon Howard skated down the slot to put the puck into the

net to tie it, 1-1.

Chris Breecher and Mike Bolton earned assists on Chase’s last goal

of the opening period. Goalkeeper Eric Mirowitz stopped 24 of 27

shots, while Mission’s Danny Darter turned away 20 of 25 shots.

Alex Podruski and Wayne Gladman scored goals for Mission.

Newport clinches division championship

Newport Harbor’s frosh-soph roller hockey team secured a

first-place title Sunday night with a 7-3 victory over Edison.

Edison entered the game a half point behind Newport, but the

victory increases the the league lead to 2 1/2 points with just one

game left.

Newport won with a strong defense, led by keeper Jake Merozian,

who only allowed three goals on 27 shots.

Grant Casserly led the scoring with three goals and two assists

followed by Rory Campbell and Chris Willard (one goal and two assists

each). Kyle Pfeiffer and Jesus Sotelo each chipped in single goals.
