* Laguna Canyon Road: Someone egged a building in the 2500 block
at 10 a.m.
* Ocean Avenue: A store owner left a Buddha head unattended in
the parking lot of the 200 block at 6:15 p.m. When the owner returned
it was gone. The item was valued at $2,100.
* Cortez Avenue: A forgery and stolen vehicle was reported in the
1200 block at 7:26 p.m. A resident sold his 1993 Mazda RX-7 for
$13,500 to a man who paid with a fraudulent cashier’s check. The case
is under investigation and the car is now registered as a stolen
vehicle.
* North Coast Highway: Hotel security conducted a citizen’s
arrest of a 37-year-old transient who refused to leave the premises
in the 200 block at 9:54 p.m. She was booked for trespassing and was
taken to Harbor Court the next morning.
JAN. 30
* Laguna Canyon Road/Milligan Drive: A resident reported a tree
blocking the driveway at the intersection at 7:46 a.m.
* South Portola: A grand theft was reported in the 40 block at
8:45 a.m. An unknown suspect stole a laptop and backpack from a
vehicle.
* Thalia Street: A non-traffic collision was reported in the 400
block at 8:47 a.m. Two cars parked behind a city truck were struck by
equipment that broke loose. Minor damage was reported.
* Glenneyre Street: A resident reported a snake in a bathroom in
the 2400 block at 2:32 p.m.
* Laguna Canyon Road/73 Toll Road: A traffic collision occurred
near the intersection at 4:54 p.m. A Covina man pulled out of the
Caltrans work area and across the highway when an oncoming vehicle
struck the vehicle causing it to overturn. The two drivers were
transported to Mission Hospital, and the Covina man was cited for
failure to yield to oncoming vehicles.
* Beverly Street: A resident reported that someone had stolen her
credit card checks out of her mailbox in the 200 block at 6:24 p.m.
The suspect cashed $4,800 worth of checks in San Diego. The case is
under investigation.
FRIDAY
* Thalia Street/South Coast Highway: Officers arrested a
33-year-old man on suspicion of driving under the influence near the
intersection at 1:50 a.m.
* Laguna Canyon Road: Police recovered a Mercedes Benz that had
been reported stolen on Jan. 27. The vehicle was towed to a business
in the 2000 block at 8:52 a.m.
* Temple Hills Drive: A resident’s elderly dog climbed down into
the canyon and could not get out near the 2000 block at 8:59 a.m. An
animal service officer rescued the dog.
* Laguna Canyon Road: Police received a call about a woman
walking along the road at 10:01 a.m. wearing a hat and a towel.
* Ledriot/Louise streets: A resident reported that she had been
chased by a gray Chihuahua in the area at 11:23 a.m. She felt that it
was a vicious dog and was afraid for children in the neighborhood.
Animal service officers were unable to locate the suspect.
* Laguna Canyon Road: A traffic collision was reported in the
21000 block at 3:45 p.m. The outbound lanes were closed while
firefighters extricated a female patient from one of the vehicles.
The road was re-opened to traffic at 4:13 p.m.
* Canyon Acres/Lewellyn drives: A bonfire was reported in the
area at 6:39 p.m. Police arrested a 20-year-old Laguna Beach woman on
a warrant for littering.
* South Coast Highway: Two juveniles were detained for curfew in
the 700 block at 10:49 p.m. An 18-year-old Anaheim man was cited for
malicious mischief.
SATURDAY
* McKnight Drive: Police arrested a 24-year-old Newport Beach man
on suspicion of driving under the influence in the 100 block at 1:46
a.m.
* Regatta Road: A resident reported that his neighbor climbed
over his fence and hit him while he was watering in his yard in the
1000 block at 9:25 a.m. The victim, who claimed he had been feuding
with his neighbor, called police. When they arrived, the suspect
reportedly fled with his wife. The case is under investigation.
* Canyon Acres Drive: A resident reported that someone smashed
the rear window of a vehicle with a golf club in the 200 block at
10:45 a.m. Nothing was stolen, and police believe this was one of
many vehicle vandalisms and burglaries that occurred in the north end
of town Saturday and early Sunday morning.
* South Coast Highway: A petty theft was reported in the 400
block at 7:29 p.m. A man walked into a shoe store and tried on two
pairs of shoes. When he went to pay, he claimed his old shoes were in
the box and we was going to wear the new pair. But when staff went to
put the other box away they found his flip flops. Total loss $69.
SUNDAY
* La Brea Street: A resident reported that someone broke the
passenger’s side window of the car and fled with a stereo in the 200
block at 9:49 p.m. Total loss $500.
* Bluff Drive: A resident called police wanting to know what she
should do about her hair dryer that fell into the toilet in the 31000
block at 10:53 a.m. She was advised to unplug it and throw it out.
* North Coast Highway/Wave Street: An animal service officer
responded to a call about a dog left in a car near the intersection
at 10:32 a.m. The officer rescued the golden retriever and left a
notice to the owner that it was taken to the shelter.
* South Coast Highway: A business reported that someone broke a
window and stole the animal shelter donation jar in the 30000 block
at 2:15 p.m. About $30 was in the jar.
* Shadow Lane: A resident reported that a neighbor was walking
with the dog off the leash in the 400 block at 7:57 p.m. When she
advised the owner that he needed to have his dog on the leash, she
was told to “lighten up” and that people in Laguna don’t need to use
leashes. The case was turned over to Animal Services.
* North Coast Highway: A hit-and-run traffic collision was
reported in the 200 block at 7:40 p.m. The victim had been driving
southbound when a man allegedly turned in front of him. When he
called police, the other driver walked away. Police towed the car and
are waiting for the owner to contact them.
* Laguna Canyon Road: Police arrested a 27-year-old Laguna Beach
woman on suspicion of spousal abuse in the 20000 block at 8:27 p.m.
She and her husband got involved in an argument over finances. She
gouged his face with her nails, causing bleeding. She was taken to
court the next morning, and her husband was issued an emergency
protective order.
MONDAY
* South Coast Highway: Officers conducted a traffic stop and
arrested a 40-year-old Laguna Beach man on suspicion of driving under
the influence in the 30000 block at 3:41 a.m. This was the third
arrest for the man. He was released on his own recognizance.
* Wendt Terrace: A resident reported that his wife drank from a
plastic water bottle that contained urine and an unknown capsule in
the 600 block at 8:23 a.m. She found the bottle in the front seat of
her car. An officer took the bottle to identify the capsule.
* Del Mar Avenue/Oro Street: A resident complained of a neighbor
who neglects to walk the dog on the leash or pick up the dog’s feces
in the area at 8:54 a.m.
* Ocean Front: Police arrived to conduct a patrol check when a
resident reported transients living in a vacant home in the 1200
block at 12:23 p.m. A 54-year-old transient was cited for illegal
lodging.
TUESDAY
* Glenneyre Street: A resident reported a gardener using a leaf
blower in the 1900 block at 9:39 a.m. When the officer arrived, the
leaf blower was in the truck. No violation was observed.
* Ocean Front: Police were called back to a vacant home when
several transients were observed inside the home in the 1200 block at
2:13 p.m. Two transients were arrested on suspicion of illegal
lodging, and municipal services was called to board up the doors.
