Eagles rule in Costa Mesa

Estancia High’s boys soccer team reigns as city champion following

a 4-2 victory at Costa Mesa to complete a two-game Golden West League

sweep of its cross-town rivals.

The Eagles jumped to a 2-1 lead, then posted two straight in the

second half to salt it away.

Sergio Madrigal, Javier Millan, Javier Ramirez and Rodrigo Duarte

scored, and Aaron Van Geem and Geo Macias each had an assist.

Madrigal, Juan Castaneda and Eddie Rubalcava each had a save for

Estancia, which closes its season out, 7-10-1, 4-7-1 in league.

Benjamin Elias and Ahmed Cisneros scored for Costa Mesa, 0-19-1,

0-10.

* Newport Harbor High’s girls left Laguna Hills with a

frustrating 2-2 Sea View League tie.

The Sailors, 5-9-7, 3-3-3 in league, got a goal from Sabrina Couch

in the 58th minute off an assist from Tricia Orth, and Taryn Flamson

drove home the tying goal at the 62.50 mark from 25 yards out.

A potential game-winner by Flamson minutes later just missed.

Lilja Addeman had three saves for Newport.

Newport has one league game left, against visiting Woodbridge on

Tuesday at 5 p.m. Woodbridge can eliminated the Sailors and take the

No. 3 spot in league for CIF with a tie.

* Corona del Mar High’s girls, in quest of the Pacific Coast

League championship, were upset by visiting University, 2-1,

Thursday.

The Sea Kings, now 9-4-1, 6-1-1 in the PCL, tied the game at 1-1

in the middle of the second half when Kinzie Kramer scored off Jenny

Long’s deflected attempt.

University (8-7, 4-4-0), however, retaliated with a shot in the

70th minute on a free kick with eyes. Uni’s first goal came on a

corner kick.

* In a nonleague boys game at Saddleback Valley Christian in San

Juan Capistrano, Sage Hill School improved to 7-4-4 with a 6-1

victory.

Zach Friedrichs scored twice for the Lightning, and Todd Montakab,

Sam Fankuchen, Anthony Kinaly, and Zack Milder added single tallies.

Cesar Arriaga, Friedrichs, Kinaly, Jordan Salinger and Kent Kuran

were credited with assists. Goalkeeper Trevor Granger had five saves.
