Breakers fall to Fountain Valley

The Laguna Beach boys’ basketball team took on some solid
competition in the Irvine World News Tournament, which wrapped up
last weekend, and came out of the tournament saddled with three
losses.
On Saturday, Laguna saw its record fall to 6-5 after a 43-33
defeat to Fountain Valley in consolation bracket play.
The Barons pulled away in the final period, outscoring the
Breakers, 15-8.
Kyle Hogan was the lone Laguna player in double figures, with 11
points.
The Breakers opened the tournament against an outstanding
Woodbridge team and suffered a 78-35 loss.
The Warriors bolted to a 27-9 first quarter lead and were never
threatened.
Spencer Willhoit topped Laguna in scoring, with nine points.
Relegated to the consolation bracket, Laguna then suffered a 70-57
loss to Edison.
The Breakers’ demise was the second quarter, when they were
outscored, 15-4.
Hogan had a brilliant scoring game as the senior posted a
game-high 38 points, which included three three-point baskets.
Alex Norfleet, with two two-point baskets, was next for the
Breakers, with eight points.
Laguna is playing in the Century Tournament, which continues
today, runs through the weekend and culminates with championship and
consolation championship play on Monday.
