Oak View shootings probe stalls
The investigation of a double homicide in Oak View in May has
stalled since police learned that their primary suspect has been
hiding out in Mexico.
Juan Jose Meza, 20, has fled to that country and is still wanted
for the crime, Lt. Ron Burgess said.
On June 26, police obtained a no-bail warrant for Meza for the
murders of 18-year-old Oscar Gaytan and 16-year-old Heriberto Tapia
Vasquez. Gaytan and Vazquez lived in Huntington Beach’s Oak View
neighborhood.
Police believe that Meza was the trigger man on May 11, when
Gaytan and Vasquez were gunned down on an Oak View sidewalk, Burgess
said.
The two were shot in the 17400 block of Dairyview Circle. Gaytan
was found dead near there, while Vasquez crawled down the street and
died in front of an apartment complex in the 17400 block of Jacquelyn
Circle.
Police are treating the shooting as a gang-related crime.
Anyone with more information about Meza should call police at
(714) 375-0666.
Traffic snarl caused after accidents
Two accidents at nearby intersections on Beach Boulevard on
Thursday brought traffic to a near standstill for several hours on
the busy thoroughfare.
At 1:35 p.m., the driver of a gold 1989 Honda ran a red light at
Beach and Talbert Avenue, crashing into a silver Toyota van, Lt. Ron
Burgess said.
The accident, coupled with an accident at Beach and Warner Avenue,
caused havoc on the popular north-south thoroughfare.
At 11:32 a.m., the driver of a white Toyota ran off the road,
crashing into a signal box and cutting power at Beach and Warner.
Power to the signal was restored by 3:15 p.m.
Katherine Troung, 19, Santa Ana, was driving the gold Honda,
police said. Tao Thach, a 51-year-old Garden Grove woman, was driving
the silver van.
Thach was transported to Huntington Beach Hospital with minor
injuries, Burgess said. Troung was cited with a red-light violation.
Driver plows into pizza restaurant
A car rammed into a Round Table Pizza restaurant Friday afternoon,
police said.
The accident occurred at 4:30 p.m., police said. The driver
suffered only a cut on the lip.
The restaurant is at 19750 Beach Blvd.
