McClune named CIF Division II Player of the Year
Newport Harbor High senior Kristin McClune, who led the Sailors to
the CIF Southern Section Division II-AA girls volleyball
championship, has been named CIF Co-Player of the Year in Division
II.
A 6-foot-3 Pepperdine-bound middle blocker, McClune was the
Sailors’ consistent kill leader during their 28-7 campaign, which
ended in a Southern California Division II regional final loss to
eventual state champion Liberty of Bakersfield.
McClune, who was also first-team All-CIF Division II as a junior,
tops a list of three Back Bay standouts to be granted All-CIF
recognition by section coaches. McClune, the Sea View League MVP,
shares CIF Player of the Year honors with Mater Dei sophomore outside
hitter Mallorie Croal.
Corona del Mar High senior middle blocker Claire Allen, the
Pacific Coast League MVP, is a first-team All-CIF choice in Division
III. The 6-0 Allen helped the Sea Kings reach the Division III-A
semifinals in section competition and finish 18-9.
Newport Harbor junior Alyson Jennings, shifted from outside hitter
to opposite early in the season, is a first-team honoree in Division
II.
An all-around talent whose contributions included hitting,
passing, setting and blocking, the 5-foot-7 Jennings is expected to
lead Coach Dan Glenn’s Sailors next fall.
Division III Player of the Year laurels were shared by Temple City
junior Jacqueline Jackson and Bishop Montgomery senior Noelle Quinn.
