Locals named All-CIF

Nine players representing three local high schools were named
Tuesday to the 2002 All-CIF Southern Section boys’ water polo
Division II team.
Standouts from Marina, Edison and Huntington Beach high schools
were named to the three division teams, including three on First
Team, two on Second Team, and four on Third Team.
Edison’s Cody Tague, Marina’s Rory Kelly and Huntington Beach’s
Bob Meripol -- all seniors -- were named First Team.
Named Second Team were senior Scott Fleming of Edison and junior
Nick Hogue, a goalie, of Marina.
Third Team selections included senior Taylor Budnick of Edison,
junior Michael Pacheco and sophomore Jared Luth of Marina, and
Huntington Beach senior Andrew Bingham.
The First Team was comprised of 12 players, the Second Team of 13,
and the Third Team of 14 players.
Heading the teams were a pair of Servite players, senior Trevor
Clark and junior Adam Hewko, who shared Co-Players of the Year
honors.
The Friars’ Jim Sprague, who guided Servite to the 2002 division
title, was named Coach of the Year.
